Community Life

Children and Young People

Children, young people and indeed, the WHOLE family are very important to us in the Benefice of Dartmouth and Dittisham!

Things to look out for:

Little Pips
Our stay and play toddler group meets every Friday morning, 10am-12pm at St Clement’s Church. There’s plenty of space to run around and lots of toys to explore. The cafe will be open for refreshments. No need to pre-book, just turn up and say hello!

Holiday Club
Taking place on the INSET days in September each year, the Holiday Club for 5-12 year olds is always great fun. We use games, challenges and craft activities to explore the bible - and it’s free to attend!

School Workshops
If you’re a local teacher, keep a lookout for information about our free school workshops and activity days. If you’d like to arrange an educational visit to any of our parish churches, please contact us.

Baptism

It is always a joy and a privilege to welcome a new member into God’s family.

If we are your local Church or you have strong links with us through family, growing up in the area or perhaps marrying with us we would be more than happy to talk about baptising your child.

All baptisms take place during one of our Sunday morning services. Do get in touch for more information

The Garden of Remembrance

Kids Matter Parenting Group

Heidi, our Youth Lead, is an accredited facilitator for both Kids Matter (1-10 years old) and Babies Matter (from 20th week of pregnancy to 12 months old).

By meeting together and supporting one another, we discuss how to build strong families and help all our kids do their best in life.

If you are interested in joining one of our programmes, please get in touch!

The Garden of Remembrance is located adjacent to St Petrox Church, at the mouth of the River Dart. It is a beautiful and restful place for the burial of ashes of loved ones and a place of quiet contemplation for all to enjoy. Anyone is entitled to have their ashes buried there.

The Sexton prepares the grave prior to a short service conducted by one of the clergy during which the ashes are interred into ground.

You may like to consider an entry in the Book of Remembrance as permanent memorials are not permitted. The Book of Remembrance is open daily, throughout the year, and can be found in a glass cabinet under the bell tower in St Petrox Church.

Donations towards the upkeep of the Garden of Remembrance are very welcome.

Please get in touch for more information or if you would like to book a burial of ashes in the Garden.

Our churches have joined the Eco-Church initiative and we are delighted to have received the A Rocha UK Bronze award for St Clements Church in Dartmouth!

This is a great first achievement as we aim for the next Silver Award. The A Rocha vision is for churches of all denominations to care for creation as an integral part of loving their neighbours and following God faithfully, and at St. Clements we feel proud to be on this journey with them.

We are also looking to instal Swift boxes in all our churches in 2026 as part of the Devon Swift Project.

Anna Chaplains

The Benefice is very fortunate to have Anna Chaplains offering spiritual support to older people who are living in care homes and sheltered housing complexes, their relatives and staff who look after them.

Anna Chaplains help to promote the spiritual welfare of older people in the wider community, particularly those facing challenges living independently.

Anna Friends also work alongside the Anna Chaplains, helping to empower those who support older people and working to meet their spiritual needs.
